Ojus: o jus n strength, vitality, vigour,
energy, power, divine light of the universe.
Ojus Medical Institute (OMI) was set up with an objective
to establish an institute of excellence in medical care, education
and research to improve the quality of health and life for
people in India.
OMI integrates medical care, education research and development
to create a holistic approach to need-based health projects,
ranging from charitable clinics in urban areas to rural programs
for adivasi(tribal) populations. Each project team comprises
administrators, doctors, researchers, social workers and volunteers,
leading to efficient coordination and faster implementation
of solutions. The projects involve participation by government
agencies, non-governmental organizations and the private sector.
While our doctors, social workers and volunteers provide medical
care facilities for the underprivileged and marginalized sections,
simultaneous educational programs disseminate awareness on
health and social issues, and apply known successes in prevention
and treatment. OMI recognizes that socio-economic and environmental
issues strongly influence the quality of health, which is why
we incorporate elements such as self-help cooperatives, water
conservation and tree plantation in our health projects. Constant
research and documentation on implementation structures and
solutions ensures that methodology constantly evolves and grows
more efficient.
OMI began its work in 1999 with support from Catherine D and
John T MacArthur Foundation, and registered as a trust since
2002. Today OMI runs more than 10 projects throughout India,
in association with organisations including Savitri Waney Charitable
Trust (UK), John Lloyd Foundation(USA), Concern India Foundation,
Bank of Maharashtra, IIT Alumni and Institute of Human Virology,
University of Maryland(USA), Rotary Club of Bombay Pier and
Rotary club of Hillcrest,Cleveland Ohio.
